Larry Stansberry of New Orleans is the Chief Executive Officer of St. Margaret's at Mercy, where he has been since 2001. He received his Bachelor's degree in Social Science at Our Lady of Holy Cross College. He also holds a graduate degree, a Master of Health Care Administration from Tulane. He has been the CEO at St. Margaret's since 2001.
He is proud that Team Gleason has settled into a specially designed living space at the St. Margaret's at Mercy nursing home. The Team Gleason House was built for people with ALS and MS and is made so that they can live as independently as possible. It is a project of the Team Gleason Foundation, established by former New Orleans Saint football player Steve Gleason, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2011.
Steve Gleason played in the NFL for eight seasons. For most of that time he was a member of the Saints, and is best remembered for blocking a punt in 2006, in the team's first home game since Hurricane Katrina. That key defensive play came to symbolize the city's recovery from that devastating natural disaster.
As Larry Stansberry New Orleans knows, the Team Gleason House is only the second such facility of its kind in the United States. It was modeled on the Steve Saling Residence Hall in Boston. Steve Gleason called the Team Gleason House the most important achievement so far by his foundation, adding that it will allow those with ALS and MS to continue to contribute what they can to society.
